Philodendron hederaceum ‘Cream Splash’ is a beautifully variegated heart-leaf Philodendron prized for its soft, pastel-toned foliage and easy-going tropical elegance. A naturally occurring sport of Philodendron hederaceum ‘Brasil’, this cultivar showcases a lighter, more delicate palette — perfect for collectors who appreciate subtle colour variation and graceful trailing growth.

The leaves are classic heart shapes but feature creamy yellow to pale lime centres with soft green edges, sometimes accented by hints of mint or silver. New leaves emerge with a pinkish hue before settling into their mature variegation. Its trailing or climbing vines create a cascading, luminous effect that brightens any interior space.

Compact, resilient, and endlessly charming, Philodendron ‘Cream Splash’ brings a fresh, airy aesthetic to tropical plant collections — a softer, more refined sibling of the bolder ‘Brasil’.

Philodendron hederaceum ‘Cream Splash’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light. The cream variegation shows best with ample brightness, though it will tolerate moderate shade. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the lighter leaf areas, and very low light, which may cause variegation to fade.

Watering

Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm feels dry to the touch. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause drooping or crisped leaf edges. Reduce watering slightly during the cooler months.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers warm, stable conditions between 18–28 °C; avoid temperatures below 15 °C.

  • Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Occasional misting or a nearby humidifier will encourage lush, healthy growth.

Soil and Potting

Use a well-draining, airy aroid mix made from equal parts compost, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. The roots prefer consistent moisture and oxygen flow. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh nutrients and allow for continued growth.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertiliser. Avoid over-fertilising, which can discolour the variegation. Pause feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.

Pruning and Maintenance

Trim leggy vines or yellowing leaves to maintain a neat, full appearance. Wipe leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and enhance their creamy sheen. Rotate the plant regularly to ensure balanced light exposure.

Growth and Maturity

A fast-growing, vining Philodendron, ‘Cream Splash’ can trail 1–2 m indoors when given room to cascade or climb. Mature vines produce larger leaves with increasingly vivid variegation. It can be trained up a moss pole for upright form or left to trail freely for a soft, cascading look.

Common Issues

  • Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Pale or re-greening leaves: Low light levels.

  • Brown edges: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.

  • Pests: Occasionally aphids or thrips; treat promptly with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

Background and Benefits

Philodendron hederaceum originates from Central and South American rainforests, where it grows as an epiphytic vine in filtered light and humid air. The ‘Cream Splash’ cultivar is a naturally occurring mutation developed for its softly variegated foliage and pastel tones, offering a more delicate alternative to ‘Brasil’.

Like all Philodendrons, it’s an excellent air-purifying plant, helping remove toxins such as formaldehyde and improving indoor air quality. Its forgiving nature makes it perfect for both beginner growers and experienced collectors looking for a subtle, elegant statement piece.

Quick Care Summary

Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun
Water: Keep soil lightly moist; allow top 2–3 cm to dry between waterings
Temperature: 18–28 °C; avoid below 15 °C
Humidity: Moderate to high (50–70%)
Soil: Airy aroid mix – compost, bark, perlite, coir
Feed: Every 4–6 weeks in spring/summer
Growth: Trailing or climbing vine, 1–2 m; heart-shaped leaves with cream and green variegation

⚠️ Toxicity note: Contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.

Styling Tip

Display Philodendron ‘Cream Splash’ in a hanging planter, tall shelf, or on a moss pole, allowing its pastel leaves to cascade naturally or climb gracefully. Its creamy tones complement darker foliage plants such as Philodendron micans or Anthurium luxurians, while pairing beautifully with silver-leaf companions like Scindapsus pictus ‘Silver Hero’. Ideal for bright living spaces or work areas, it brings gentle colour and life to modern tropical interiors.

Working perfectly. Install of stereo equipment and carpet left me wanting some heat and sound resistant materials.

BUY THIS ONE!
Model: NewSLS50_52
This is one of the good ones. There are other brands just as good, and manny brands are worse, but this handles well, rolls down easily, doesn't come off at all easily, and adapts to dips and curves like a champ. Appropriately heavy and dead, I'm happy with the way it smothers panel resonances and even at muffling direct sound, like a big hand over my Uncle Harry's eternally noisy mouth. You can rip the foil but you have to work hard at doing that. Remember to buy a brayer; you can roll overlaps nice and thin. Also remember to pre-wipe the sheet metal with a decent solvent like acetone or Stoddard/Varsol. It should last forever.

Good stuff, but watch the temp
Model: NewSLS50_52
I used this in my single cab pickup truck (89 ford.) It only took half the box (10 sheets or 25 square feet) to do the floors, but I bought the big box because I plan to do the doors, back wall, and maybe the roof as well. One thing I learned is that the temperature matters when you’re doing the installation. It was around 55F when I started in the evening, and when it dipped down into the 40s the sheets would not stick to the metal, and were hard to compress with the roller. That’s why I ended up only doing the floors and not any vertical surfaces; i will have to wait for a nice hot day. The other thing is that the foil layer on top is razor sharp at the edges, definitely wear gloves! I didn’t notice until after but I have little papercuts all over my fingers. Aside from those things, the install was easy and straightforward. The sheets cut easily with scissors, and any goo that ends up on your hands or scissors can be cleaned up with acetone (nail polish remover), or lacquer thinner. I would use this stuff again.

Awesome filter! Nasty campground water no longer...
Style: Standard Filter
I have run these for years in my RV and they work killer! Here's some more in-depth thoughts: Pros: - These work better than I had expected. Just hook them up to the water source, hook your hose to it, run it to your trailer and viola` clean and good tasting water. Some of the places we have visited have had water that I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. With this thing attached, it's very good tasting. - I like the hose attachment that comes with this to aide in adding flexibility to the system and not put too much strain on the system. I have bought so many of these, I now use one attaching the filter to the nozzle, one out of the filter to my hose, and one attaching my hose to the trailer. Notes: - I will note that the manufacturer suggesting using these for only 1 camping season, and this makes sense. That's what I do, and it seems to work out great. It's not too much $ to replace every season. - Another note, when first putting this filter into service (just the first time of the season, subsequent hook-ups wont do this) there will be a bunch of carbon (black in the water) that comes out of the faucet in your trailer. This is perfectly fine, safe, and of no issue. This is the filter breaking in and getting the extra carbon out of the system. There is no health concern with this happening. I just run the faucet until it clears up, and then we're good to go for the rest of the season. - Last note, when we unhook from our camping spot, I swing the filter in my hand with my arm extended (using centrifugal force, not centrifical, look it up) to get the residual water out of the filter so it doesn't sit in there and spoil. I do this until I get most of the water drops to stop, leave it out on the counter to dry, and boom, it's perfect the next time. Cons: - None to report Overall this filter does a great job taking care of some seriously nasty campground water that we've encountered all over the Southwest US. I cannot recommend it any higher.
