Native habitat and growth pattern
The ZZ Plant is native to Eastern Africa, from Kenya to Tanzania. In the wild, it grows in dry, rocky soil and stores water in its thick rhizomes, which is why it thrives on minimal care indoors. Its slow-growing, upright stems can eventually reach up to 60–90cm tall in the right conditions, making it a long-lived, reliable houseplant.

Size
W12cm x H40cm. Supplied in a plastic nursery pot.

Styling tips

  • Perfect for modern, minimalist interiors with its glossy green leaves

  • Great choice for office spaces or low-light rooms

  • Adds structure to corners or hallways where other plants may struggle

  • Pairs beautifully with natural fibre baskets or ceramic pots for a designer look

ZZ Plant care guide

Light requirements:
Tolerates a wide range of light levels, from low light to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which may scorch its leaves.

Watering:
Water only when the top few centimetres of soil are dry. ZZ Plants store water in their rhizomes, so they are highly drought-tolerant and dislike overwatering.

Feeding:
Feed monthly in spring and summer. We recommend our vegan, organic Original Plant Food to support healthy growth.

Humidity:
Average home humidity is fine. No special requirements.

Pet safety:
Toxic if ingested — keep away from cats and dogs.

Propagation:
Can be propagated by dividing rhizomes or rooting leaf cuttings, though it’s a slow process.

Why choose this plant?

The ZZ Plant is one of the most reliable and forgiving houseplants you can own. Its glossy green leaves and upright stems bring an elegant, palm-like presence to any space, while its drought tolerance makes it a favourite for those who sometimes forget to water.

It’s an adaptable plant that thrives in almost any light conditions, from shaded hallways to bright living rooms, and it requires minimal attention to stay looking lush. Its slow growth and architectural form make it a natural statement piece, perfect for adding structure to modern interiors.

As a gift, it’s a wonderful option — symbolising resilience and prosperity, the ZZ Plant is a thoughtful choice for new homes, offices, or simply as a low-maintenance green companion.

FAQs

Can the ZZ Plant survive in low light?
Yes — it’s one of the best houseplants for darker rooms, though growth will be slower.

Why are my ZZ Plant’s leaves turning yellow?
This is usually a sign of overwatering. Allow the soil to dry before watering again.

How tall can a ZZ Plant grow indoors?
Indoors, it typically reaches 60–90cm tall over time with the right care.

Does the ZZ Plant purify the air?
Like many houseplants, it contributes to a fresher indoor environment, though it shouldn’t be relied upon as a major air purifier.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

delightful read
Format: Kindle
What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger
