Unlike other philodendrons, which can be easily propagated through single-node cuttings with a high likelihood of producing variegated offspring, the Golden Dragon is more unpredictable in its variegation pattern. This characteristic, often referred to as "not cutting true," has made it a more elusive and sought-after variety.

The origin of the Golden Dragon Variegated is uncertain, with some speculating that it is a hybrid of Philodendron bipennifolium developed in a Thai lab. As the plant matures, its leaves take on a dragon’s head or arrowhead shape, adding to its visual intrigue. The large, glossy leaves are adorned with golden-yellow or creamy-white speckles, enhancing its appeal.
